Tappahannock is A Colony: An Angry Poem by an Angry Poet

Tappahannock is A Fucking Colony. 

I live in a fucking Colony of Capital (Northern Capital, Foreign Capital? excuse me for not being specific, it is nearly impossible to find out where our resources go, believe me I'm trying). 

My people (Native American, Black, and White and increasingly Latino) were first dislocated from the land, which they might have used to produce food for their needs. 

Our ancestors were forced to pay taxes, thus drawn into the cash economy, for schools and resources to which they rarely got/get substantial benefit. 

 my town is a fucking colony that gets cheap trinkets from walmart for all our trees , produce, and seafood, meanwhile we can't afford to build decent homes and eat decent food. 

  we have asthma from the shit they spray on fields, 

we are obese from the processed foods that they reship to us, 

and we get locked the fuck up because we have to sell drugs to eat.

Our children die in infancy at rates comparable to South Africa. 

Our schools train us to work in the mind numbing service industries that constitute a large portion  of our job market (since logging and farming are highly mechanized and don't need our labor).

Far too many of us don't have electicity or running water.

Far too many of us die in our 30's and 40's and 50's. 

Far too many of us are depressed and downtrodden.

We're surviving, which is a fight, but we have to fight. 

Fighting is the only thing that will save us.

God Help Us.
